19 January 2019—

Do you remember the 2017 Women’s March, which was a worldwide protest on January 21, 2017, following the inauguration of President Donald Trump?

The main protest was in Washington, D.C., known as the ‘Women’s March on Washington’ with many other sister- marches worldwide, and New York was one of them. According to the Mayor’s Office “More than 400,000 people marched through Manhattan in solidarity with the Women’s March on Washington.”

This year, the 2019 Women’s March on New York City was different than the 2017 one, and there were two separate Women’s March events in New York City this year.

The Women’s March on New York City: Organized by the Women’s March Alliance, which is the group that’s been running the Women’s March on New York City since its start in 2017, and is separate from the Washington Women’s March organization, which has a New York City chapter. The march started at 11 am, at Columbus Circle went east onto 59th Street and then turn south onto 6th Ave to end at 44th Street and 6th.

Demonstrators marched down 6th Avenue during the Women’s March in New York.

Demonstrators marched with photos of people who died as a rusult of gun violance during the Woman’s March Alliance in New York.

Pink was everywhere: as hats, as turban, as headband.

The Women’s Unity Rally: The New York City chapter of the national Women’s March, which did not have a parade permit to march, held a “Women’s Unity Rally” at Foley Square in downtown Manhattan.

The Non-March for Disabled Women: There was a third event in New York City, organized by Rise and Resist with support from Women’s March NYC (the local chapter of the national movement),

It took place in Grand Central Station.

“Elevators are for everybody” signs were there to remind that subway stations (and buildings) should have elevator services for disabled people.

Think about 59 street and Lexington Avenue station. One of the major subway station that is a home for # 4. 5, 6 and N, R, W trains. And, there is no elevator, there is no escalator to get into, and out of the station.   And this is only one of the stations without elevator service.
