26 May 2025—
Today is Memorial Day, a day for honoring the U.S. military personnel who died in active military service. Veterans, active members of the arm forces, families and visitors gathered at the Intrepid Museum for a Memorial Day ceremony on Monday, 26 May to pay a tribute to those who lost their lives.
The order of the scheduled ceremony is always the same,. Singing the national anthem and saluting the flag is the first.
After singing the national anthem and saluting the flag, Civic and military leaders offer remarks,
New York City Mayor Eric Adams delivered remarks at the Intrepid Museum’s Annual Memorial Day ceremony.
After delivering remarks, Civic and military leaders join in a special wreath-laying ceremony in honor of the fallen.
Mayor Eric Adams joined military leaders in laying four memorial wreaths into the water.
After tossing the wreaths, the event continued with a stretching 100 foot flag.
After the flag unfurled, a detail from Marine fired three volleys, a traditional military salute to culminate the event.
It sounded like three volleys fired by one person, not by several. They looked happy, and congratulated each other.
The USS New York, a San Antonio-class amphibious transport dock ship in the back marines put rifles away which were used for the three-volley rifle salute.
