Mayor Eric Adams — who was indicted in the fall on federal charges of bribery, fraud and accepting a political contribution from a foreign national — canceled several Martin Luther King Jr. Day events in NYC to attend President Donald Trump’s inauguration on Monday, January 20, in Washington, D.C.

Adams previously met with President-elect Donald Trump at Mar-a-Lago in Palm Beach, Florida, on Friday.
Deputy Mayor Fabien Levy said in a statement “The mayor looks forward to having a productive conversation with the incoming president on how we can move our city and country forward.”
During the briefing, Mayor Adams answered reporters’ questions about why he canceled several Martin Luther King Jr. Day events in NYC to attend President Donald Trump’s inauguration on Monday, and whether Adams and Trump discussed a pardon.
According to Deputy Mayor Fabien Levy “In the early hours of Monday morning, the Trump administration reached out inviting Mayor Adams to attend the inauguration at the incoming administration’s request. Mayor Adams accepted on behalf of New York City.”
Mayor Adams : “We had a new president and I have said it before, I’m not going to be warring with the president, I’m going to be working with the president and that’s my responsibility as the mayor.”
