The Film Society of Lincoln Center (FSLC) offers two retrospectives; “The Discreet Charm of George Cukor” and “Liv &Ingmar: The Films” along with “For Your Consideration: Oscar Hopefuls.”

“The Discreet Charm of George Cukor”  (December 13 – January 7, 2014).

How can we forget My Fair Lady with Audrey Hepburn and Rex Harrison or Let’s Make Love with Marilyn Monroe and Yves Montand or Adam’s Rib with Katharine Hepburn and Spencer Tracy or The Philadelphia Story with Katharine Hepburn, Jimmy Stewart, and Cary Grant. These are only some of the movies that George Cukor directed.

 “The Discreet Charm of George Cukor” series is organized in collaboration with the Locarno Film Festival, and runs 26 days.

And offers a comprehensive overview (50 films) of the Academy Award®- winning director’s work.

Highlights include Cukor’s many collaborations with Katharine Hepburn —including ADAM’S RIB (1949), A BILL OF DIVORCEMENT (1932), THE CORN IS GREEN (1979), LITTLE WOMEN (1933), HOLIDAY (1938), KEEPER OF THE FLAME (1942), LOVE AMONG THE RUINS (1975), PAT AND MIKE (1952),

“Liv &Ingmar: The Films” (December 13 – 19)

 Liv Ullmann and Ingmar Bergman

.

 Liv Ullmann, actress and director, is known as director Ingmar Bergman’s muse, lover and collaborator.  She was only 25 when she met 46-year-old Bergman (1918 – 2007) during the making of Persona (1966), they became lowers for 5 years. Ingmar Bergman directed Liv Ullmann in more than 12 films.

In this series, including Persona, Scenes From a Marriage there are 9 movies with Liv Ullmann, directed by Ingmar Bergman and a documentary called Liv and Ingmar (Liv og Ingmar), directed by Dheeraj Akolkar.

“For Your Consideration: Oscar Hopefuls”(December 20- January 2, 2014)

.

This two-week series gives audiences a chance to see some of the foreign film selections and all 15 documentarycontenders which are shortlisted for this year’s Academy Awards®.

.

According to the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences 147 films had originally qualified in the Documentary Feature category. The Academy’s Documentary Branch members determined the shortlist in a preliminary round of voting, and will select the five nominees from among the 15 titles.
